FQA for tuxedos is a little education. If you have never worn a tux before or it has been awhile since you rented one, this will bring you up to date on what to expect when renting a tuxedo. Before we go there, a little history education is always fun to know.

Vests are adjustable at the neck and waist. The bottom of the vest should cover the waist and hide the slide adjustments on the slacks. They are available in either single or double-breasted styles. Vests can be worn with almost any tuxedo ensemble. There are two types of vests: Open-back and full-back. Open-back vest have a band going around the neck and another fastened across the back. Vests come in a variety of colors and patterns. They can compliment bridal parties or prom date gown colors. For a traditional look, you may opt for a cummerbund instead of a vest. Cummerbunds are usually worn with bow ties and the pleats should face up.

Shirts come in a variety of collars and materials. Your choices include band, wing and lay down. Wing shirts have a band with triangle points at the front button closure. They can be worn with Bow, Windsor or Cravat ties. Lay down shirts are the most popular. They look like a regular dress shirt. Most tuxedo shirts have pleats at the front in ¼” to 1/2 “width pleats. The width of the pleats makes no difference. All are suitable for any occasion.

If you are after comfort and luxury, consider the Tallia Microfiber shirts. These come non pleated and oh so soft. There are no FQA for tuxedos with this shirt. The colors include white, black and stripes. The stripes are white on white, black on black, white on black and black on white. They add a small amount to the tux total price but so worth it for those who demand comfort.

Spring is the heaviest season for tux rentals. Allow extra time if your event is this time of year. For Prom and Black Tie events four to six weeks is suggested for the best selection.

It takes about 10 – 15 minutes to be measured for a tux. A down payment is required to hold your date. Try on is usually available two to three days prior to your event. Do you have to try it on when picking it up? It is a good idea. If anything needs attention, it will save you the trip back to the shop.
