Bridal Gown
The bridal gown is one of the first things a bride thinks about once a date is set. With the many choices today, it can be mind boggling. You may look through bridal magazines for the dream gown, shop the stores or browse internet sites like this one.
If you want to save your self a little time and eliminate some styles right off the bat, think about your silhouette. Be honest with your self. Let’s start with your best features. Is it your
facial features such as your hair or eyes
hour glass figure
broad shoulders
What ever feature is a WOW accent that part of your silhouette. We all have good features so don’t beat your self up thinking otherwise. Your friends and family can point them out. Just ask if you find this a challenge.
Look for bridal gowns that have details located at these points. If it is facial features, think about a strapless, portrait or sweetheart necklines.
If you have that die for hour glass figure, show that waistline off. Accents such as
brooches or style drapes to one side are good choices. Think of a colored sash, piping or beading that will draw the eye towards the middle of your body. If you have a train on your gown, work with an alterations specialist that will do an under bustle. This will keep the fullness towards the bottom of the bridal gown instead of at the waist. An illusion that makes the waist look even smaller.
With broad shoulders, a mermaid, or halter style should be considered. It balances out the body from top to bottom. A gown with a low waist line is another option. A sash at this point with a splash of color adds a focal point of detail.
What is the Story on Size?
Size charts run in every direction. There is body, garment and vanity sizing. If your gown is a custom design, this can be another set of numbers. Forget about the numbers and think about fit. Squeezing into a gown because you like the number will only make you uncomfortable. If the number is unpleasant, cut the tag out. No one will know.
The Dreaded Budget
Everybody draws the line on what they will spend. It is no different when it comes to bridal gowns. If you are putting your event together on a limited budget, you can still have a gown that looks great. Let go of having the latest name brand. They come with a higher price tag just like every thing else. Check out sites with
discounted gowns. These are usually no name brands, discontinued styles or the buyer bought in large quantities to be able to pass the savings on.
Discontinued styles are gowns that the manufacture is no longer cutting. Each season they bring in the new and discontinue the old. If you are not set on having the latest style you can find name brands at a saving. Unless you are high society, friends may ask where you purchased your gown but rarely who is the manufacture.
All brides want to look their best. You can too. Just remember to accent your best features. Look at gowns that define you. You will spend less time trying on unflattering styles. The weeding out process will be limited. Go for a comfort. You will be spending a majority of your day in this dress. Stay within your budget. Once the wedding is over, an over priced gown on a limited budget may be hard to swallow.
