The Dreaded Bridesmaids Dresses

Compliment attendants with bridesmaids dresses they can live with. If your bridal party has multi size figures, choose a gown for the group rather than one or two. Let’s face it; special friends come in all sizes. They support the bride long before, during and after the wedding. With a little thought and all the choices available, you can put the dreaded bridesmaid’s stories to rest.

If you have plus size attendants, choose simple elegant over style trendy. Slip/sheath dresses are increasingly popular. They flatter a wide variety of figure types. They are easily re-worn as a cocktail dress. These often come in silk or in sheer chiffon layers.

An A-line style is another option which looks great on different body shapes. Think princess seams for easy alterations. Halter and tank styles are good for larger busted attendants.

What about the Pregnant Bridesmaid?

Maternity for wedding attendants is readily available. If the style you choose is not available in maternity, check the details. Are there princess or side seams that may be let out for extra room? If your bridesmaid is beyond seam allowances, order extra fabric when ordering the gowns. A skilled dress maker can alter the gown. There are several ways to achieve fit. If you have any doubts, contact an alterations specialist or dress maker before hand for advice. A sales clerk does not qualify.

No Need for a Fancy Wedding

Wedding apparel can be dressed down. Informal gowns will do the trick. Think of styles with a shorter length and less detail. A solid colored dress. If you want a splash of color, add ribbon for a sash. A second color can pull your scheme together. The ribbon can be placed at empire, waist or midriff.

Separates are another option. They can be mixed and matched for multiple styles. Consider one color and length. Let your attendants choose the style. If you shy away from traditional wedding satin, it is more likely the dress will be wearable after the wedding. Crepes and chiffons fit into this category.

What Time Is It?

Start early. When choosing bridesmaids dresses, more time on your side is better. Manufacturers are constantly adding and discontinuing styles. As a result, it is strongly recommended shopping for and ordering your dresses as soon as you have made a decision. Different manufacturers have different lead times. You will also want to leave enough time for alterations. Usually one month before the wedding.

Have fun and enjoy each moment. Let those girl friends support you. Hey, that is why you asked them to be your bridesmaids.
